About The Group

Writing can be a lonely occupation – but not if you’re a member of Chiltern Writers. We are a friendly group who welcome all writers, from beginner to published professional.

We have a number of experienced writers in the group, but you certainly don’t need to be published to be a member. Some of our members are beginners, some have been writing for some time but have yet to break into the market, and some are many-times published.  Most aim to be published, though some simply write for their own pleasure. Some don’t write at all but are simply interested in the craft and are equally welcome.

Our Members’ interests cover almost every aspect of writing including novelists, poets, short-story writers, non-fiction writers, bloggers and writers of magazine features and newspaper columns. Take a look at our members’ showcase to see some of our members’ achievements and aspirations.

We are a friendly bunch, who make an active effort to welcome new members and help them feel part of the group. Come to any meeting and find out for yourself.

We offer:

    • A thriving group of over 40 members.
    • Monthly meetings, which take one of the following formats:
      • A guest speaker talking about a particular aspect of writing – these may be novelists, radio script writers, journalists, poets, tv script editors or non-fiction writers.
      • Writing workshops – led by guest writers or sometimes by an experienced CW member.
      • Manuscript evenings – any Members who wish to do so can read a few minutes of a piece of work and receive feedback and constructive criticism from other Members of the group.
    • A website with useful links for schools, courses, books and festivals.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month in the Library Room adjacent to Wendover Library, High Street, Wendover, Bucks and start at 8pm.

If you are using a satellite navigation system then the postcode to enter is HP22 6DU.

There is a free car park adjacent to the Library and Wendover station is within easy walking distance.

There is disabled access to the meeting venue.

Annual membership runs from January to December. With effect from January 2019 fees will increase as follows:

    • Annual membership from £20 to £25
    • Half yearly membership from £10 to £13
    • Guest Attendance from £4 to £5 per event

Chiltern Writers Group was founded in 1988 by a group of local authors (including Marina Oliver and, slightly later, Hilary Johnson).

Our Honorary Members include Christopher North, Stella Duffy and Carole Matthews. The late Colin Dexter was also an Honorary Member of the group.
